The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
